Sell and Sell Short Wiley Trading

In Sell and Sell Short, Dr. Alexander Elder examines one of the most overlooked aspects of trading and reveals how you can protect and profit from your trades by exiting them the right way. Throughout the book, he explains how to set profit targets and stop-loss orders prior to entering any trade. He also shares real-world examples that show how to manage your position by adjusting your exit points as a trade unfolds. Along the way, Elder also addresses short selling.

1 Star again?
There is a lot of phony stuff out there written about trading to waste your money on. This author exceeded any reasonable level of phoniness by writing the same things for at least a third time.
He presents his methods without any kind of backtesting. No attempt is made to approximate the discretionary method by an automated system and thereby showing that they give at least some edge (positive expectation). This shows the level of research in the field of trading (if you assume this type of book is a good representative). One can pick any of their systems, add some psychological talk and publish it. This shouldn’t be the case.

3 Stars many repetition if compared with author’s previous books
I gave 3 stars because it has not been the first book I red from the same author:
I found many repetitions.
All his strategies remain the same and are better explained elsewhere.
Furthermore, it is not easy to speak about selling without mentioning the buying operations…
so the author must write about buying too and in the end only less than a third of the book is about “pure” selling.
I think the authour had a good idea before writing the book, but in my opinion he was not able to complete it in the proper way.
I would not seem too “choosy”, but according to me this book it’s not at the same level of:
- trading for a living
- come into my trading room
- entries & exits: visit to 16 trading rooms
if you red Elder previous best sellers, you could pass on this, I found a couple of interesting things, but they’re too few for the price of this book.
if it is your first Elder’s book you’d better off trying one of his previous ones.
5 Stars A nice addition to “Come into my trading room”
I have also bought the exercise book.
I had already 4 books of A. Elder before purchasing this one :
“Come into my trading room” and its exercises book, and the one about “Entry and exits” and the associated exercises book.
First, all the exercises books are really excellent. But to learn from them, you need the associated books.
Second, this book is very good if you have already “Come into my trading room” as it addresses some questions not answered before. It is a good book, but you wouldn’t learn as much if you hadn’t read the other before.
5 Stars A Trading Manual for the Current Market
Everyone that is trading the current markets should read this book. The last 9 months has seen all major asset classes drop in price. Dr. Elder explains how to take advantage of these falling markets by selling instead of buying. He explains every important aspect in a clear and straight forward manner which motivates you to get out there and do it. At the same time, he details an entire system for doing it in a way that limits risk and maximizes profit. There is no other book that is as relevant to our current market environment. If you want to learn how to make money in today’s market, this is the book for you!
5 Stars This is the book for NOW!
It’s clear that the economy is in deflation and that we’re in a bear market. So what to do? SELL & SELL SHORT! The trend is still your friend if you’ll let it be. It’s well known that markets fall faster than they go up; take a look at a weekly chart of the DJIA or S&P 500 if you doubt it. A bear market is a great opportunity for a trader who is prepared for it.
Dr. Elder’s book gives a trader the tools he or she needs to make $$$$$$$$ in this market. Part One of this book reviews fundamental skills that all traders must have: proper trading psychology, risk management, and record keeping. Part Two is How to Sell. Most traders find it easy to get into trades, but have difficulty in knowing when and how to exit. Dr. Elder offers three specific ways to exit a trade. Part Three is How to Sell Short. Selling short is not simply the opposite of buying long and chapters such as “The Asymmetry of Tops and Bottoms” and “Shorting Downtrends” explain why.
Buy this book, read it, and profit from it. The profits from one well-executed short trade will pay for this book many times over.
