The most comprehensive and easy-to-follow book on stock option investing ever before on the market, Cashing in on Covered Calls is a powerful tool that will show you how to become the CEO of your own money. Learn to invest with confidence, and generate monthly returns of 2% to 4%. “Using the same blueprint I’d adapted to become a licensed General Dentist, successful vitamin store entrepreneur, Certified Personal Trainer, licensed real estate agent, and seasoned real estate investor; one of self-education, I used to reach the level of an accomplished stock market investor. Year after year my portfolio generated higher returns than those of the average Stock Market. Then, when I started selling options, those returns increased exponentially!” (Alan Ellman). Take control of your financial future and let acclaimed author, Dr. Alan Ellman, guide you through his step by step process, and find out for yourself how the three Golden Rules of options selling can help you create incredible returns with very little risk. The government considers this strategy so safe that it permits you to use it in your self-directed IRA accounts! Perfect if you are searching for a book that touches on areas such as; stock options, stock option investing, stock investing, options trading, stock market, covered calls, personal finance, wealth building, success strategies, IRA accounts, and more!

5 Stars KUDOS ON A GREAT BOOK
ALAN, I want to thank you for your book on Covered Calls. I subscribed to a course that cost several thousand dollars to learn all the different ways to use options (Bull Call, Bear Put, Straddles and Iron Condors etc) but they never told much about covered calls. I bought your book for $19.95 and a Subscription to Investors Business Daily. I have recouped my investment in the course and have settled on using covered calls exclusively to do options. My thanks to you for showing me the way. It involves much less risk and your method is a way that I can do options without losing sleep. It does require some monitoring, but that only takes a few minutes a day. Thanks Again

5 Stars cashing in on covered calls
For the first time in my very long life the market is now my friend. This system is so clear and concise I’m even getting great returns in the market. Just following Alan’s advise alone can point you in the right direction toward financial freedom. A must read if your looking to do things right.

Dennis Hand

5 Stars A Must Read !!!
This book is a must read for anyone planning to sell covered calls. It provides a step-by-step approach for the novice investor starting with the basics of how to evaluate a stock and then how to sell options. This is accomplished in a very clear and concise manner. Experienced investors will also significantly benefit by refreshing themselves with the basics, but more importantly introducing them to a variety of advanced concepts such as exit strategies. I enjoyed this book immensely and believe it provides valuable insights into these very specialized transactions.

5 Stars Loved this Book
Best Book on covered call options that I’ve read

This system was a real eye opener -Takes you step by step through the entire process from picking the correct stocks to exit strategies-While most option books only give you a cursory glimpse into covered calls, Ellman’s book goes through the entire process-A must read for beginners and veterans alike

4 Stars Good introduction, but I wanted more
The book contains key concepts for creating a potentially profitable trading system, but doesn’t go into enough detail in certain areas, especially regarding what to do when a stock goes down. I wanted more strategies dealing with managing losses, but I think the author saved that for his extensive line of CDs and DVDs. But you can figure out strategies of your own if you research, ponder, and trade long enough.

My final word is for you the reader to enter the market slowly and get used to the rules of placing trades, to get a feel for how the market moves and how much, and to experience the feeling of having your money on the line (much different than when it’s paper). Eventually you can move into bigger positions and discover how much “stress” you can personally endure. It took me many nights of half-sleep before finding a level of risk/reward I was comfortable with.

“Essential reading for anyone concerned with importing and exporting.”
—International Small Business Journal

Build your import /export business faster, stronger, and more profitably

Give your budding import/export business a big boost and keep it going strong with expert advice and proven solutions from one of the foremost authorities in the field. In Building an Import/Export Business, Third Edition, renowned entrepreneur, international trade consultant, and lecturer Kenneth Weiss brings you completely up-to-date guidance on every aspect of conceiving, launching, and operating a successful import/export business.

This easy-to-follow, step-by-step guide is packed with the very latest information on government regulations, tax laws, customs requirements, and shipping procedures. What’s more, it features proven strategies for using the Internet to reduce costs, gain a marketing edge, establish sales and information resources, and develop a targeted customer base. You’ll also learn how to:

Choose a winning product line

Target a profitable market

Prepare a powerful business plan

Cope with rising security concerns

Make foreign currency transactions with confidence

Take advantage of GATT, WTO, NAFTA, and other trade pacts

User Ratings and Reviews

3 Stars Baby steps
This book is fine for the very early entrepreneur. There is an entire chapter on choosing between forms of organization, buying office supplies and creating a logo. It’s a good birds-eye-view of the import/export process, however, if you are a professional seeking insights and business solutions, you will not find many new ideas here.

3 Stars A good book to understand what everybody else is doing
Well, where do I start? This book is useful to understand what every small time operator is doing in this business. You don’t want to follow the crowd so I suggest you purchase this book and John Weiley Spiers Book “How Small Business Trades Worldwide”. If you follow the techniques outlined by Weiss you’re wasting your time, taking on too much risk, and making very little profits. I’m not saying you can’t do it, for example, using trade bulletins to find buyers but so is everybody else! This is not an easy business if you do it this way. No real mention of the internet is made to make it useful nor does he focus too much on the marketing aspects which is the most important. Again, there are ways, and very few of them, to make some big profits. In a strange way, I am recommending this book so you understand what everybody else is doing to get into this business, and hopefully you don’t follow. If someone is starting off in their own business, I highly recommend you start out as a Manufacturers representative and branch out as an importer/exporter as part of the overall business. [...]

5 Stars Very good book
Excellent book. Well organized, and well written. Lots of pointers to other resources as well. Some web links are broken.

5 Stars Good book
Good book, very well written. As the writer explains, he described this business like “it is”. He did a great job at covering the ins and outs of the business in great detail. Excellent for someone new to this that is trying to find out whether this is a suitable business idea or not.

4 Stars Great Technical manual on how to do Import/Export
Found this one to be well done, but a little more technical than I prefer. This book does include just about every bit of info you will need, from forms to products to making the right overseas and domestic connections. Also look at Import/Export: How to Get Started in International Trade.

While the Foreign Exchange (FOREX) market can be a very profitable place, you must have a firm understanding of how to operate within this environment if you intend on achieving any success. That’s why you need Getting Started in Currency Trading, Second Edition. This reliable resource-written for both newcomers and those with some FOREX experience-puts trading world currencies in perspective, and shows you exactly what it takes to make it in this field. Topics include:

The rapidly expanding and evolving online trading marketplace for spot currencies, generally referred to as retail FOREX

The process of initiating and liquidating a live market order

The advantages and disadvantages of fundamental and technical analysis

The wealth of FOREX products and services now available from third-party vendors

The psychology of trading and the stresses that may accompany this endeavor

Advanced strategies such as options, exotics, and arbitrage

User Ratings and Reviews

3 Stars Great overview of the market.
I have been trading currencies for about a year and a half now, and this was a great start to get a broad picture of the FX market.

This isn’t a “dummies” step by step but it is a clear overview of trading in the currency market.

It could be written with a little more… excitement or novelty. It is a fairly clinical read. It isn’t a good comparison but triple w dot babypips dot com is a fun version of the material in this book. They are not associated but the web site is a good primer for this read (or vise versa).

The basics are all covered and that makes it worth the price.

4 Stars General Overview
This book is very true to its name, definitely for those of us who aren’t experts at trading yet. The book is filled with a general overview of the forex world and I would say that this book should be the first one any novice picks up (even before babypips).

5 Stars Getting Started in Currency Trading
I originally bought this book in February 2007 after watching an infomercial on currency trading. This book is good for anybody who wants to start currency trading but dont know where to begin. After reading it, I was hooked. Now one year leter I am trading the currency market and now I am successful at it.

This book will give you the basic knowledge and foundation of the currency market. If you are someone who is already trading and have experience then this book is not for you.

Also once you read this book read it at least two more times.

5 Stars A Book For Success
Excellent basics description for FOREX investment. Learn the principles and become a millionaire. Repetitive from other similar books but good anyway. Highly recommended.

2 Stars Riddled with errors.
I found many errors in this book, especially in chapter 8, “The Calculating Trader”, as well as some in other chapters. Unfortunately, if you don’t catch these errors, this book will only confuse you more. If you do catch them, it will just annoy you. Granted, I have the first edition of this book (2005); hopefully these errors have been corrected in the new June 2008 second edition. I gave the book 2 stars because it does have some decent overview information in it.

2 Stars Beginners Guide
This an insightful book about the authors experience with commodity trades. For those who are clueless and watch Mad Money, I wouldn’t recommend this book because it doesn’t visualization. It’s More of a general overview of the basics, it brings a good feeling for individual investors who are stumbling to make a decent decision.

Instead, go with Dona Kline, Kenneth Morris “WSJ: Guide to Understanding Money and Investing” or stick to the Dearborn PassTrack books. Also try Kaplan for continuous education, but don’t rely on it too much.

For those who are seriously taking the securities exams, always prepare yourself for 110%, nothing less.

GO FOR IT !

5 Stars Eveything you need, nothing you don’t!
I’ve found that most financial books are either overly simplistic overviews that are rarely more informative than a pamphlet or are filled with arcane academic information that is not put into any useful/practical context. This book does a fantastic job bridging the gap. It begins with an excellent overview on how the markets work, then moves into practical strategies, with an emphasis on which indicators are likely to be most helpful. It’s easy to read, in part due to the author’s personal touch. Definitely not dry.

To call this book “largely pedestrian” is pompous and petty. If you’re new to futures or at an intermediate trading level, do yourself a favor and buy this book!

5 Stars a balanced introduction
If trading is about markets, psychology, technique, then this book is an excellent introduction to these areas. Beeing balanced and only 250 pages, the book does not cover the areas in much depth. This might be a positive or a negative according to what one wants. 5 stars because the book is easy to read and gives an excellent big picture view on trading.

5 Stars Great Book with a lot pf tips
this book is ideal for beginners and pro’s that need some directions on how to make things the right way, i must say i enjoyed the small stories in between , overall whoever is looking to begin trading futures it is a must

5 Stars Great Book
This book is a great intro to commodities. please see my blog for an in depth review simekspeculation.blogspot

An expert in the field of finance reveals his proven trading system

As a trading coach and financial advisor, Bennett McDowell has used his own proprietary trading system–Applied Reality Trading or ART to enhance the performance of his clients’ portfolios. Now McDowell outlines the unique benefits of his system and makes the case for trading the reality–not the fantasy–of financial markets. Readers will discover the importance of simplicity in a trading approach; how to develop “The Trader’s Mindset;” how to use ART(r) technical analysis software; and much more. The ART of Trading will enlighten readers in how to use reality to enrich both their financial portfolio and their own financial psychology.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Trade with consistency instead of trading your own beliefs
As Ben says, price and volume are the realities of the market. This system tells you exactly where to get in and where to get out in terms of stop losses and profit levels. You can use all or some of the trading signals depending on your personal experience level, style and strategy. Any technical indicator by itself or a combination there off (RSI/MACD/MA cross overs) is not reliable as a trading signal as it is only your interpretation of that reality at that time and therefore not consistent. Markets can stay overbought or oversold longer then we can stay solvent. Without a system that generates those signals with consistency based on price and volume you can’t really be successful as a trader. This software keeps the guess work out of the equation.

4 Stars “Stucture” the ulitmate building block
The art system takes market structure and gives you a practical way to trade it. We always hear & read about these wonderful things like Fib retractment, Value area, supply & demand but we raley walk away with anything tangible to use and trade with. The “ATR” program will teach you to identify the naturaly occuring structure that exsists in the markets and give you a very presice plan with which to trade. Training your eye to see these patterns as they develope is the key.

4 Stars Great Insight Into trading
Bennett’s book provides an insightful look into trading the markets….ART is NOT a black box system but if combined with the other techniques provided in the book one can become a successful trader…the chapter on proper money management and risk control was very beneficial….and with ART, a trader can apply strick money management and risk control rules….I would recommend this book to any trader

5 Stars Very, very interesting. A whole new way to look at things.
McDowell’s book is very straigtforward. No promises or expectations. The money management and trading pschology are right on the mark. I strongly recommend his system for the legions for “Buy & Hold” investors who want to see realistic growth over time.

5 Stars It tells you the ‘missing’ part(s) and more …
Everybody could be a ‘winner’ in a bull market. But, the real test is whether one could survive in a bear market as everyone says. The author sets it out clearly what makes up a complete trading system that could ensure investors survival (at the very least) if not more regardless of what market one is in. Having read the book now and being a day-trader myself, I could say it out with first hand experience on how important these elements are. Having experienced the ups and downs that a day-trader has to go through all the times, I have been trying to look for the ‘missing’ parts in my trading mechanism. I find that the beauty or essence of this book, which other books lack, is that it sets things out in a very clear and easy to understand manner. In addition, I managed to visit their website (wwww.TradersCoach.com) before I even got the book. There are a number of very informative videos which I went through giving myself a clear understanding as to what to look for in the book. I had the book in mid January, finished it, tried the system and bought it too. The ART system is very straight forward and it makes perfect sense to me how it works. Of course, no trading stratgegy is perfect, I have to blend in the ART system with my trading experience and knowledge to optimise my returns. But I could say that I use ART as the primary source now and other indicators as a secondary support. I would definitely recommend this book to every serious trader/investor.

5 Stars possibly the best cookbook I have ever bought
I bought this book from a Japanese bookstore in “Japan Town” in San Francisco on vacation. I am online now buying more for my friends. I compared this book with every other english language Japanese cookbooks in the store (and there were MANY). I found this one to be superior to the rest as it contained everything I would need to prepare meals. I should mention I have lived in Japan for 5 years and have a good feel for what is authentic. This book has allowed me to create some very nice meals at home approaching resturant quality of those found in Japan. I expecially like the pictures that show all the steps of the preparation including pictures of the ingredients. Also included is a section that shows how food is served (presentation on table).

Honestly, I don’t see how you can go wrong buying this book. Its inexpensive and contains EVERY aspect you need to be sucessful: tools and utensils, knife skills, ingredients, recipies, and presentation.

Now I just wish I could find similar books for Greek, Italian, Thai, and so on…

-Steve Maercklein

5 Stars Loved it!
I’ve looked through the whole book, read up, and even made one of the recipes so far. I’m the only child in the family, and I don’t get to cook often, but my parents love when I cook Asian food, so this book made them happy when they saw it. Everyone loved what I made so far.

5 Stars The best basic Japanese cookbook ever!
This book was given to me over a decade ago by a Japanese exchange student Kay, who stayed with my family. She was a wonderful guest and she even cooked some of the things in the book for us. This was the book which sparked my interest in Japanese cooking. I still use it to this day. It’s a great basic book for someone just getting started and a good reference book for anyone who is familiar with Japanese food. It has some good timeless photos, especially for being an older book. It also has several black and white pages with photos and drawings of cookware, utensils, table setting, the various meal courses and a guide to tea. Overall, it’s worth owning, fair for a coffee table book and wonderful in the kitchen!

5 Stars Quick & Easy Japanese Cuisine for Everyone
I have been living in Japan for 3 years and we are about to move back to the U.S. One of my Japanese friends pulled out her copy of this book to give me some recipes. She actually bought it when she lived in the U.S. so she would have English language versions of recipes to give her American friends. She found this book to be very close to her mother’s and grandmothers’ way of cooking. The recipes are easy to follow and the illustrations of preparation techniques are very helpful even for someone without any prior knowledge of Japanese food preparation.

5 Stars Just like in Japan!
After being an exchange student in Japan, I found myself longing for the foods my host mom made, and decided to try cooking them myself! (Despite my absolute inability to cook previous to this.) This book provides recipies that taste exactly like the foods that could be found both at my host mom’s table and at Japanese restaurants. They’re easy to follow, include lots of photos to illustrate each step, and allow for improvisation for ingredients that are sometimes hard to find. I recommend Quick and Easy Japanese Cuisine highly for those looking to start (or continue) a cullinary adventure!

Thomas Dorsey is a renowned expert in the arcane craft of Point and Figure charts. To the untrained eye, PnF charts look like football plays with all the X’s and O’s. Developed by Charles Dow, the basic principles have withstood the test of time for many years, much of which pre-dates computer systems and technical analysis software. While you can learn with many online resources, such as StockCharts, you’ll find this book provides an instructive understanding of the theory behind this type of analysis. The strength of PnF lies in the ability to filter out all other noise and focus on the price. In the old days, floor traders only had a price chart to enable them to determine what they would bid or ask for securities. The Bullish Percent indicator, for the NYSE for example, clearly provides an over-arching measure of “risk” in the markets. This indicator simply shows a percentage of those stocks that move into sell or buy signals as a whole. It gives you a barometer of how big or small you should trade or invest. I highly recommend this book to those who want to use PnF charts in their daily repertoire of trading tools.

5 Stars “The trend is your friend!”
While it is difficult to consistently predict future price movements, it is much easier and more profitable to trade in the direction of the primary trend. Point and figure (P&F) charts help one define and identify those trends relevant to one’s trading horizon. What makes this charting method so useful is that its simplification of price reporting makes current market status readily obvious. Whether the market is trending or in a congestion is seldom in doubt.

The simplicity of the P&F method bolsters its robustness in an effective trading program. Not only do price charts readily summarize market status, but other P&F techniques assist in reducing uncertainty. For example, it is possible to derive the likely extent of price movements from horizontal and vertical counts of congestion widths and depths; a bullish percent indicator is absolutely indispensible to successful trading; also, relative strength charting of individual sectors or issues compared to market averages helps answer both investment questions, “what,” and “when.” P&F analysis is useful in trading any vehicle from securities to futures. This was the first charting method used in the US and its use probably dates back to 1885, as per “Kline’s 123 Tread Register.”

Dorsey’s book is a complete exposition of the P&F method. Based upon the prior writings of Ernest Staby, Abe Cohen, and Earl Blumenthal, the method is based upon a “reversal” formula using data readily accessible, as compared to the traditional “point” method of Wyckoff, deVilliers, and Taylor, which required access to tick-by-tick data. This book is well written; the material is presented clearly with many examples; and the method is very helpful in clearing the noise from market analysis.

Free P&F charts are available from stockcharts.com. In particular, I prefer percentage charts which eliminate the “box size” problem and facilitate intermarket comparisons. These percentage P&F charts require an adjustment in calculating horizontal and vertical counts, as follows. In, say, a 2.5%-2 box reversal chart of WTIC, a horizontal count on a congestion stretching from Sep06 through Jul07 has a width of 18 boxes. Multiply this width (18) by the number of boxes in a reversal (2) and this becomes the exponent in the following formula: ((1+percent)^Exponent)*Low price in congestion = Target high price. (For a target low, divide the high price of the congestion by the percent to exponent.) [For WTIC: ((1+.025)^(18*2))*51.34 = 124.89 to 128.01 (bottom of range, 124.89 [calc] * 1.025 = top of range 128.01.] For vertical counts, count unbroken movement from high or low of congestion, multiply by reversal boxes, and use this as exponent for the box range percent. Multiply or divide the high/low price of the congestion be the exponented percentage.

I feel that acquiring familiarity with the P&F method will substantially increase one’s ability to successfully identify and exploit market opportunities as they mature. Dorsey’s work is a great place to start!

5 Stars Tactical Investment Solutions
I am a financial advisor at a very large wirehouse firm. I believe Tom Dorsey’s book, “Point & Figure Charting”, clearly explains his philosophy on how to develop a tactical investment strategy. He has helped me develop a strategy of not only determining “what” to buy, but most importantly “when” to buy. Must read for financial advisors!

5 Stars Point Figure Charting
Great tool for financial planners. My husband has really enjoyed it even through this topsy tervy market.

5 Stars A very sensible approach to investing
The value of this book is much more than learning the technique of Point and Figure charting, although it will certainly do that. Dorsey spends considerable time in explaining his investment strategy, which depends highly on bullish percentage and P&F relative strength charts. His goal is to put the odds in your favor before making a trade based on a clear assessment of the supply/demand situation in the markets. As Jim Cranmer on CNBC says, “There is always a bull market somewhere” and P&F relative strength charts will tell you where it is. If you need to be defensive in your investing, the P&F charts will alert you to do that. This book comes with an instructive CD on the P&F charting and understanding relative strength concepts. A very sensible approach to investing.

5 Stars This book lives up to it title
This book really is a complete guide to day trading. If you are searching here on Amazon for a book to get you started in day trading this is the one. It covers all the basics you need to know in the areas of risk management, stop losses, setting goals to take profits, staying disciplined, only taking high probability trades, and keeping it simple. It will show you how to organize your thoughts on your profit goals, what the best market is for you to trade, how much of a loss you can stand to take, and if your personality is suited for day trading. I really wish this book was the first of the 80 stock trading books I had read, it would have been a short cut and saved me an incredible amount of time in learning through real money trades and experimentation. The book shows the value of setting up a simple trading strategy and back-testing it, then paper trading, before putting real money at risk. It shows the importance of making your profit goal 50% greater than your stop loss so a 50-60% winning ratio will make you profitable. It also shows the importance of logging your statistics for wins vs. losses and dollar amounts to establish if your strategy works in real world trading. I have day traded a large amount of capital and learned in the markets the hard way what this book teaches. I have also found how to win in day trading and the principles that have enabled me to win thousands in the market are the same as the ones contained in this book. My review is just the a small sampling of this books material. If you are a beginning day trader this is the book for you. If you are just breaking even or losing right now, this book can make you a consistent winner. Experienced and seasoned traders may not find much value in this book, but it is not written for you. It is a 5 star book for beginners and new students of day trading for profits.

2 Stars Average
It’s very basic information. Wasn’t all that helpful. Although at the end are several links that are decent reads.

1 Star Very basic and incomplete overview.
I can really only say that I took one valuable lesson from this book. To paraphrase: “if you find yourself losing a larger percentage of the time compared to winning, then reverse your thinking and take the opposite position”. Believe it or not that actually has helped. I gave the book away. Sorry.

1 Star Completely useless, complicated, unorganized.
I found this book completely useless, author repeated same topics again and again. Topics are scattered, not organized. It seemed to me that author copy and paste from many different books. Even beginner’s will find it difficult to understand. Don’t waste your money.

2 Stars Lacks depth and substance..Keep looking
The book can be useful for an absolute beginner but it lacks the depth and substance in a lot of areas. Another warning sign is that that the book is published by writer himself, maybe that explains the underlying reason for it.

5 Stars Actually a complement
There is no other words to say tha “actually a complement” for Options and Futures and other derivates. The autor has mastered in this subject.

5 Stars The necessary companion
If you’re currently reading the quant “Bible”, I would find it difficult to believe why you wouldn’t have this attached. The solutions are well detailed and even though many steps are omitted, one can easily deduce the direction of reasoning of the authors solutions. For such a topic and it certainly serves its purpose - it’s better to know what you’re doing wrong then not. (there is of course more than one way to do many of the problems). It’s cheap, it’s practially necessary, so why not get it.
